The Chairman of the PSA Peugeot Citroen Managing Board informed the employees and the labor union representatives at the Poissy Plant that production of a new Premium Compact Segment Vehicle is attributed to the site under the framework of the New Social Contract. The new model, a part of the Back in the Race product plan, caters to the development of the DS brand. It is intended for the fast-growing market segment. The New Social Contract had made a commitment to announce the launch of atleast one new model in it's assembly plants in the 2014-16 period. PSA Peugeot Citroen is comfortable ahead in sales with more than 971,000 vehicles manufactured in France in 2014 , providing a trade surplus of €4.7 billion for France, which has honoured the New Social Contract's promise of producing one million vehicles in France by 2016.
The Group is now shifting it's focus to the modernatization of it's plant and therby maintaining a strong, updated industrial base in France, also aiding in reducing the resources' cost in the future. More than €1.5 billion will be committed over three years to optimise the supply chain, make plants more compact, simplify flows and carry out other upgrades.
In his comments, Carlos Tavares declared: “I have come to announce that Poissy has been chosen to produce a new vehicle that will extend our DS premium brand's line-up on the new EMP1 platform. This decision reaffirms Poissy’s know-how and its mission to be a centre of excellence for premium compact vehicles for the Group's three brands."
